workshops and offerings:
the Detox series workshops include:
DETOX SERIES: physical-
Detox to re-tox? The pattern might seem like a never-ending cliché, however there are several considerations and choices that one can make to prevent feeling completely toxic and overwhelmed by our fast paced lives. A workshop focusing on physical toxicity in the digestive system and the core region of the body. This workshop includes a detailed discussion on how our diet, lifestyle, and products that we consume affect our bodies and the way we feel. Suggestions for dietary and herbal considerations will be discussed before moving on to the practice of a detox yoga sequence created to flush toxins from the body and bring awareness to the digestive system and core muscle groups. Filled with twists, abdominal work, arm balances and creative yoga sequencing, this workshop will leave you with an awareness of your digestive region and knowledge about what changes and considerations you can make in your diet and lifestyle to help reduce toxicity on a daily basis.
DETOX SERIES: emotional-
Dealing with the emotional sources of toxicity, this workshop uses the energetic regions of the chakras to discuss emotional toxicity and how feelings such as anger, sadness and fear trigger certain responses in our bodies that cause us to feel emotionally toxic. We will discuss how toxic emotional build up can also lead to food cravings, over indulgences and eating disorders that contribute to toxicity in our bodies on a physical level. The discussion for this workshop will detail the three main lower chakra regions (located where the digestive track runs) of the muladhara, svadhisthana and manipura and how imbalances in these regions block energy from rising to the higher chakras (located in the heart, throat, brow and crown of head) where we emotionally process relationships with others. Dietary and herbal considerations will be discussed to balance emotional and mental toxicity and purification of individual chakras. Following the discussion, a two hour detox yoga sequence will focus on twists, hip and shoulder opening and backbends to re-align the spine so as to improve emotional and energetic flow through the 7 chakras.
CORE INTEGRATION-
Drawing from techniques used to strengthen acrobats and gymnasts, this practice is for climbers who are interested in stepping up their training routine through advanced core work and inversion training. We will go through a basic core warm up that will transition to partner work on handstands and arm balances that are not only a lot of fun but also a great way to strengthen your upper body and hands for climbing. Open to all, a great practice to do with your climbing partner as a warm up or to stretch out afterwards. No prior knowledge of gymnastics or yoga is necessary.
REDEFINING BALANCE-
Redefining Balance is an exploration into the core center of the body that allows us to take the yoga practice off the mat into new forms of balance. With an emphasis on core strength as a foundation for developing and deepening the practice of arm balances, inversions and backbends students will learn that balance is relative to what you are practicing on. Through the inclusion of AcroYoga we will introduce the therapeutics of Thai Massage alongside the strength and power of Acrobatics as students learn how to base, fly and spot each other in inversions and arm balances on other peoples, feet, hands and knees. Playful in nature, Redefining Balance introduces powerful tools for communication and support for individuals who have some experience in vinyasa yoga and are looking to deepen their practice through the support and connection of working with others, especially in more advanced postures. Above all else, this program will ignite a sense of exploration and adventure as we find that balance is the result of our energy, focus and ability to connect to others. Some experience in inversions at the wall or working with a spotter is recommended.
INVERSION IMMERSION-
"Only the person who risks is truly free."
- Anonymous
Spotting is the art of listening so fully that we can serve our partners by offering only what is needed to set them free. Focusing on an awareness of alignment and balance, students will work with each other to learn how to safely spot and practice acrobatic poses such as handstand, forearm stand and headstand so as to experience the joy and therapeutic benefits of being inverted. Come flip your perspective upside down through this exploration into balance as we learn to trust our spotters and ourselves to become more empowered and joyful.
Intended for students who are already beginning to practice inversions on their own- some prior experience with yoga, gymnastics or acrobatics is a pre-requisite to attending this workshop.
BACKBENDS & TWISTS - moving through the spine with ease
Through a proper awareness of core strength learn how to access deeper backbends and twists that will help to purify the digestive track and stimulate the nervous system so as to improve one’s mood and lift energy levels. Backbends are the poses that energetically symbolize moving into the future and twists are said to wring out the past so together these poses encourage students to feel empowered to take on positive change in their practice on and off the mat.
SLACKLINE SERIES-
The Slackline Series is a unique practice that redefines your sense of balance and mental focus. Great for climbers and athletes of all forms, the YogaSlackers bring their unique practice of slackasana to climbing gyms and yoga studios alike to help students to develop new techniques of complete body awareness and strength as well as concentration. This practice not only improves your climbing but your overall sense of balance and concentration. Slacklining is by far some of the most fun you will have trying to stand on climbing webbing and a great way to train for climbing when you can’t make it to a rock wall. In this 2 hour workshop, students will learn the basics of the slackasana series including standing and walking on the line, kneeling, sitting, arm balancing and even going upside down. Open to all, for more information please visit: www.yogaslackers.com
ACROYOGA-
THERAPEUTICS
AcroYoga blends the spiritual wisdom of yoga, the loving kindness of Thai massage, and the dynamic power of Acrobatics. These three ancient lineages form the foundation of a unique new practice that cultivates trust, connection and playfulness. This workshop with focus on using core awareness to help practitioners balance on each other and take flight to truly experience the joy of being inverted and in supported back bends without the effort and struggle of trying to hold yourself up.
Open to everyone, there will be an emphasis on therapeutic back bends (way easier to do with a partner then on your own!) as well as forward flying to stretch the shoulders and release tight hips. Feel free to come with a partner but it is also fun to come by yourself as you will get to work with a bunch of new people who usually become your friends anyways! Open to all, for more information please visit: www.acroyoga.org
ACROYOGA - VALENTINE'S DAY
Come share and connect with a partner or friend as we explore the wonders of partner yoga and Thai massage while enjoying chocolate and other Valentine's Day treats. We will nurture and practice metta (loving kindness) through partner asanas and therapeutic techniques intended to stretch and support both partners so as to leave you feeling completely relaxed and at ease. Chocolates will be provided and students are also invited to bring their favorite desserts. Open to all, no prior experience with partner yoga or Thai massage is necessary (but a desire for chocolate is strongly recommended)
THAI MASSAGE-
Thai massage involves sretching and deep masage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor and both partners wear comfortable clothing allowing for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. This ancient healing system was developed by a Buddhist physician over 2500 years ago. Thai massage is also called Thai Yoga massage because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Many people say that Thai massage is like doing yoga - without the work! Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment. Come learn the benefits of giving and receiving a thai massage. No partner is necessary. The perfect way to end a physically demanding day.
