Adi came across her first Pilates class while studying dance at Skidmore College. She was immediately drawn to the intense physical aspect of the series and she could not believe how quickly her body began to strengthen after just a few classes. Having suffered from serious back, ankle, shoulder and wrist injuries due to dance and sports, Adi was told by doctors that her condition was permanent and degenerative, and that there was a good chance that she would live with chronic back and joint pain her entire life and possibly have trouble even walking as she got older. But through the development of core strength, Adi was able to target the root of many of her injuries and reverse the damage done to the point of baffling many of her doctors and sports therapists years later (incidentally, these doctors not prescribe Pilates as a form of physical therapy).
The ability to lift up out of your legs seems unfathomable to many. Thanks to Pilates, Adi actually changed the muscular structure of her legs, back and shoulders and through the development of abdominal core strength she began to lift the weight out of her ankles and reverse years of damage. Today, Adi is ever grateful to her first Pilates teacher, Lisa Hoffmaster, for helping her to correct her alignment and undo numerous injuries. Adi still holds true to her personal experience with Pilates and she teaches her students that with the development of core strength anything is possible. Since 2003 Adi has taught numerous students her approach to the Pilates method and she is constantly amazed at how quickly her students grasp hold of the theory as well as the exercises behind the practice. She also has noticed that the students who practice Pilates regularly, advance further in their yoga practice and seem to avoid the shoulder, low back and wrist injuries that are all too often associated with frequent practice of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga.
